A year later, Florida businesses say the state’s immigration law dealt a huge blow
From NPR: About a year ago, Florida Governor- and then presidential candidate- Ron DeSantis supported passage of a tough immigration enforcement law. SB 1718 punishes employers who use undocumented labor.
Many local Florida businesses say the new law has led to workers leaving the state that’s hurt their bottom line.
The U.S. government estimates that nationwide over 40% of farmworkers are undocumented.
According to one Floridian, families who had worked with for years left. “The government doesn’t seem to care,” he says. “Maybe they think the crops are gonna pick themselves.”
