Update on Rwanda Deportation Bill in the UK

We have previously posted on the Blog about the UK’s efforts to send asylum seekers to Rwanda to process their claims.

The New York Times reports today an update on the Parliament’s passage of legislation to allow asylum seekers to be sent to Rwanda. As Mark Lander and Stephen Castle write:

    The legislation is designed to allow the government to put some asylum seekers on one-way flights to     Rwanda, where they would have their claims processed by the authorities in that Central African     country. If they were then granted refugee status, they would be resettled in Rwanda, not Britain.

Furthermore, the prime minister has now announced that charter flights will begin in 10 to 12 weeks.
