The Marshall Project’s Jamiles Lartey on “How a Drop in Border Crossings May Change the Presidential Campaign”

The Marshall Project’s Jamiles Lartey has an interesting article out this weekend: “How a Drop in Border Crossings May Change the Presidential Campaign.” In it, Lartey highlights the decrease in border “encounters” by the U.S. Border Patrol, due in part to President Biden’s EO limiting access to asylum. As he writes, “immigration and border security was front and center at the Democratic convention,” with “party platform” that, like Biden’s new EO, “supports quicker deportations of economic migrants and stricter rules for political asylum.”
