Preparations Ongoing for Expected Trump Immigration Measures

Communities across the country are preparing for the new Trump administration’s immigration enforcement policies.   Different states and localities will likely have different experiences in light of many factors, including how many immigrants live there, state and local laws (sanctuary and otherwise), proximity to the U.S./Mexico border, and the enforcement steps taken by the Trump administration.  Here, for example, is a look at how President Trump’s immigration policies may affect Oregon.   One might guess that the experience in Arizona, near the border with a voting population more sympathetic to state and local assistance with federal border enforcement, to be quite different than Oregon’s or California’s.

As I talk with reporters in recent days, I find the interest in immigration history and law to be greater than almost ever has been the case in recent years.  The truth is that the nation will have to wait to see how the policies unfold.  Stay tuned as we will likely have quite an immigration ride starting in January.
