UC Davis achieves Hispanic-Serving Institution eligibility

UC Davis Logo

There is some good news from the University of California, Davis! The university is now eligible to be one of the nation’s few research-intensive universities designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution, or HSI, after fall enrollment numbers crossed the threshold for HSI status for the first time.

Latinx enrollment at UC Davis has reached a new peak of about 8,100 students or 25.1 percent of undergraduate full-time-equivalent students, which surpasses the U.S. Department of Education’s criteria of at least 25 percent for HSIs. This fall’s 25.1 percent was up from 24.6 percent last year.

Many people made this achievement possible, including my law faculty colleague (and immigration scholar) Raquel Aldana, who served for several years as Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Diversity.
