ABA Commission on Immigration: Rapid Response Immigration Communications and Legal Clinics Tool kit
The ABA Commission on Immigration has released a Rapid Response Immigration Communications and Legal Clinics Tool kit!
This Toolkit aims to add to existing resources by focusing on practical guidance for legal service providers looking to set up rapid response legal clinics. It is designed to help legal service providers develop an infrastructure that will allow them to adapt and respond quickly to changing laws and policies, and to incorporate volunteers to scale up capacity to serve noncitizens.
Section I focuses on communications with clients and community members about changes in law and policy. Section II outlines four different types of legal clinics that can be implemented to serve noncitizen communities: stays of removal, Freedom of Information Act requests, legal screenings, and family preparedness. Section III explains the importance of trauma-informed lawyering and provides practical guidance. Section IV advises on how to communicate with volunteers to maintain engagement while building new projects. Finally, the Appendix is full of samples and template documents to help guide legal service providers as they implement rapid response clinics.
