The beat goes on and the immigration enforcement news from Washington, D.C. is nonstop.  Ted Hesson and Hannah Lang for Reuters report that the Trump administration continues to ramp up immigration enforcement.

Acting Homeland Security Secretary Benjamine Huffman said in a memorandum released yesterday that immigration officials could strip temporary legal status from migrants who entered through former President Joe Biden’s “parole” programs. The memorandum provides guidance for the use of expedited removal, “suggesting officers focus on migrants who failed to request asylum within a one-year deadline after arriving in the U.S.”  Earlier this week, President Trump expanded expedited removal to apply across the country to all those who entered within two years.

In a separate memorandum, the Acting Secretary invoked an immigration statute to make it easier to deputize U.S. state and local law enforcement to assist with immigration enforcement and detention due to a “mass influx” of immigrants in the U.S. illegally.
