New Research from the UCLA Latino Policy and Politics Institute

UCLA’s Latino Policy and Politics Institute has released a new study on the health and social consequences of President Trump’s executive order to end birthright citizenship, Born into Uncertainty.

The authors of the report are Dr. Lucía Félix Beltrán, Rosario Majano, Ahmad Ismail, Jie Zong, Dr. Silvia R. González, and Dr. Arturo Vargas Bustamante.

Highlights of the study’s findings include that ending birthright citizenship would:

• discourage families from using essential services, worsening health outcomes.
• worsen barriers to prenatal care, driving up costs and harming infant health.
• disproportionately affect Latino children.
• harm immigrants, a group that contributes more to the U.S. health system than they receive in healthcare services.
