Texas governor orders National Guard to Assist Federal Immigration Enforcement

Hernández and Silvia Foster-Frau for the Washington Post report that U.S. “border authorities have deputized Texas National Guard soldiers to arrest and detain immigrants in an unprecedented move that has renewed concerns about how the Trump administration will carry out its mass deportation plan.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection acting commissioner Pete Flores and the Texas military department reached an agreement last week allowing some soldiers to perform `the duties and functions of an immigration officer,’ under the supervision of federal authorities while waiving any additional training requirements.”
