Trump Administration Cuts by Almost Half the Board of Immigration Appeals
Britain Eakin for Law360 reports that, yesterday, the Executive Office for Immigration Review moved to reduce the size of the Board of Immigration Appeals from 28 to 15 members. “In 2002, Ashcroft, under former President George W. Bush, reduced the size of the board from 23 to 11 members, saying the larger size made it difficult for the board to reach a consensus. At the time, Ashcroft said shrinking the BIA would streamline procedures and allow the board `to resolve complex legal questions more effectively,” according to an August 2002 U.S. Department of Justice statement.'”
This is big news. I am looking to locate official documentation of the change.
UPDATE (Feb. 22): Paul Schmidt on Immigration Courtside comments on the reported downsizing of the BIA.
