USA Today reports that Attorney General Pam Bondi that the Justice Department has sued the state of New York and top officials for prioritizing “illegal aliens over American citizens.”  Bondi in a press conference claimed that “millions” of people “with violent records have flooded into our communities, bringing violence and deadly drugs with them,” and that states like New York were contributing to the problem.

I am not sure that there is much to the legal claims.  But, as with many of the Trump administration immigration measures, the publicity, not positive litigation outcomes, is the goal of the lawsuit.

In President Trump’s first administration, Attorney General Jeff Sessions unsuccessfully challenged California’s sanctuary law.  He visited California and announced the suit, making similar claims as Biondi is now making about a New York law.
