Border Update Includes Profiles of 15 Sent to El Salvador
Today’s Border Update from Adam Isacson at the Washington Office on Latin America covers:
- The government’s use of the Alien Enemies Act
- Renewed military presence at the border
- Travel ban news
- Border Wall Construction; and
- Notes on Congress
Discussion of the first issue — the Alien Enemies Act — includes profiles on 15 of the 137 Venezuelan men sent to El Salvador. The profiles are heartbreaking–asylum seekers with apparently strong claims who were legitimately pursuing relief in the US but who’ve been extraordinarily renditioned and imprisoned in a hellscape without the ability to contact their attorneys or families and subject to hard labor.
