EU Expected to Harshen Deportation Rules
Politico’s Bartosz Brzeninski reports that the EU is expected to rework its deportation system to speed return of persons with rejected asylum claims.
According to the European Commission, the new plan will be announced on March 11 and will include “harsh consequences” for those who do not comply.
Additionally, “[t]he Commission is also exploring offshore ‘return hubs’ in third countries willing to accept deportees — a legally fraught idea reminiscent of the U.K.’s Rwanda asylum plan and Italy’s Albania deal.”
