IJs Fired, Despite Backlog
Mother Jones has in-depth coverage of the Trump Administration’s purge of immigration judges. On Valentine’s Day, 13 newly hired IJs as well as 7 assistant chief IJs were let go. As of March, an additional 2 IJs, 1 assistant chief IJ, and 5 senior managers were also terminated. Another 18 IJs, 1 assistant chief IJ, and some 60 EOIR staff members have plans to retire or resign.
