Breaking News: Supreme Court blocks Trump from conducting more deportations under Alien Enemies Act

Not often that that the U.S. Supreme Court issues an order early Saturday morning.  Such an order alone is news.  But there is more.  The Court’s order blocks Trump administration from deporting any more Venezuelan migrants under the Alien Enemies Act.  Lawyers for the migrants alleged that the administration was about to send detainees to El Salvador.

In a brief order, the court directed the administration to temporarily halt any plan to deport a group of Venezuelan nationals who have been detained in northern Texas.  Justices Thomas and Alito dissented from the order.  The order states that a statement of Justice Alito will “follow.”
