Dominican Republic’s Efforts to Deport Haitian Women & Kids
Why be depressed only about the state of immigration law in our country when you can be depressed about the state of immigration in other countries as well?
Check out the first two paragraphs of this BBC reports about the state of things in the Dominican Republic:
The Dominican Republic says it deported more than 130 Haitian women and children on the first day of a crackdown on undocumented migrants in hospitals.
Dominican authorities said 48 pregnant women, 39 new mothers and 48 children were removed on Monday.
Don’t worry though, the DR government has assured folks that the women and kids “were treated with dignity and given food” and, moreover, the post-birth deportations occurred only after the women were “discharged from hospital and there were no risks to their health.” Phew. For a moment there I thought the policy was utterly inhumane.
