The Associated Press reports that Florida Atlantic University, the University of Florida, and the University of South Florida are all seeking to agree to have their campus police participate in federal immigration enforcement.
Although the schools are not yet listed in an online log of agencies participating in the 287(g) program, it appears that they will enter into such agreements with the U.S. government and law enforcement officers will receive U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement training and will be “deputize[d] to help enforce immigration laws. . . . . If approved, the university police departments could be among the first in the country to be granted such authority.”
