Continued Growth of 287(g) Agreements
In April, co-editor Austin Kocher noted that, under the second Trump administration, 287(g) agreements were experiencing significant growth. Kocher identified 444 active 287(g) agreements as of April 11–more than ever before in place.
As of 9am today, the number of active 287(g) agreements has grown to 628 with an additional 65 agreements pending.
These include:
- 99 Jail Enforcement Model (JEM) agreements that authorize deputized officers to question arrested noncitizens about their immigration status and issue immigration detainers;
- 223 Warrant Service Officer (WSO) agreements that authorize local law enforcement to execute ICE administrative warrants; and
- 306 Task Force Model (TFM) agreements that allow local law enforcement to enforce immigration laws during routine police duties.
