California Congress Member Denied Access to Immigrant Detention Facilities — Again

Engaged in a mass deportation campaign, the Trump administration has limited congressional access to immigrant detention facilities. For the second time in a week, Congress member Doris Matsui was denied entry into a Sacramento immigration facility. She and other elected leaders sought to investigate reports of people detained overnight without adequate shelter.
Congress member Matsui and local elected officials responded last week with letters and public statements (see here) demanding transparency and access to the facility. Matsui initially arrived on August 22, but was denied permission to inspect the conditions.
Matusi said on Thursday that her office is “negotiating” a time with immigration officials to return.
